In our development team, we work together to build secure and reliable solutions that help our customers communicate safely. We are now looking for a Test Automation Engineer to join our team in Reading, Berkshire. This role offers hybrid working.
About the job
As a Test Automation Engineer, you will work closely with developers, product managers, and operations teams. Your main job will be to develop and support automated tests and the infrastructure for our application suite, which monitors and manages IoT devices. Your responsibilities will include:
- Designing, building, and maintaining automated test frameworks for Windows services, APIs, and web-based UIs.
- Developing automated regression and integration test suites.
- Making sure automation code is scalable and easy to maintain.
- Validating how Windows services interact with hardware terminals.
- Testing end-to-end workflows across services, APIs, and web interfaces.
- Creating automated tests for API integrations with external platforms.
- Working with others to define test strategies.
- Writing clear and reusable test cases.
- Monitoring test runs, analysing failures, and helping to find root causes.
- Promoting automation best practices and improving QA processes.
- Modifying and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for automated test execution.
- Implementing test reporting and metrics to track quality trends.
About you
- Around 2–3 years of experience in manual and automated software testing.
- Experience with Windows applications and services.
- Good knowledge of testing methodologies and tools (such as Gherkin, Specflow, Selenium, or Cypress).
- Experience with automated testing frameworks and tools (Selenium, Cypress, MSTest, NUnit, XUnit, Moq, Microsoft Fakes, etc.).
- Understanding of different software testing types (unit, integration, system, regression, performance, smoke, chaos, etc.).
- Excellent writing skills for clear and detailed test specifications.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Familiarity with Agile methods and CI/CD practices.
Desirable Skills
- Testing hardware-in-the-loop systems or software-hardware integrations.
- Network protocols, TCP/IP, and security.
- Performance or load testing tools (JMeter, k6).
- Containerisation (Docker) and virtualisation (Proxmox, Terraform, Ansible).
